FAQ

Excess waiver questions answered.

If you have an accident or claim, the last thing you want to do is pay an excess. You rely on your insurer to cover your accident and CarPlans® excess waiver to cover your excess.

What is an excess?

An excess is the first amount payable, which is your responsibility in the event of the submission of a claim on your underlying insurance policy. It is the uninsured portion of your loss and is payable regardless whether it was your fault or not.

Who is the insured?

The insured is the person named in the policy schedule and includes his/her spouse as well as family normally living with him/her and financially dependent on him/her.

What is an underlying comprehensive insurance policy?

It is the comprehensive short-term insurance policy which you have purchased from an authorised Financial Service Provider which covers your loss in the event of an accident, fire, theft or hijacking. The policy must be a comprehensive insurance policy with any registered South African insurance company.

When can I use my excess waiver?

You may use your excess waiver when you have an authorised claim on your underlying insurance policy and the excess applied/charged is covered on this policy.
